About Us

The Thembalethu Trust was registered as a Public Benefit (Non-Profit) Organisation in 2005, which enables South African donors to claim tax, from donations to the Trust.

The leadership of 3 local Churches (Anglican, Dutch Reformed and Vineyard) started working together in 2004 to give hope to the communityÉÉ..Thembalethu (Our Hope) Aids and EducationTrust was born out of this.

Trustees

Johan Enslin - Chairman of the Trust (2003-2008)

Johan has been Minister at the Sundays River Dutch Reformed Church for 20 years. He has been actively involved in numerous community projects in the region including Chairing a Youth Camp Trust, Founder and Chairman of the Project Good News (towards interdenominational evangelism), participated in the local Police Forum, Managed the building of the Langbos Preschool (now managed by the Thembalethu Trust), Vice-Chairman of the Steering Committee of the Presbytery of Sundays River parishes.
Johan has two daughters. His wife Mariette works at the Sundays River Valley Citrus Company.

Chris Morley - Treasurer of the Trust (2003-2008)

Chris is married to Sue, a medical doctor. They have 3 daughters. He Pastors the River Vineyard Christian Fellowship. This church is part of the Association of Vineyard Churches. Chris completed his Bachelor of Theology (Honours) at Rhodes University and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa. In 2000 he joined the staff of Tygerberg Vineyard Christian Fellowswhip in Cape Town. In 2003 he moved to the Sundays River Valley to pastor the River Vineyard. Apart from his theology degree Chris has completed a Business Management course and a Counseling course through the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Natalie Hansen - Trustee, Projects Manager (2003-2008)

Natalie graduated in Sociology Honors at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. She has been involved in Community Development work throughout her career. She was employed at The Urban Foundation in Port Elizabeth, where she developed a Career Guidance Education Project. When she moved to the Addo area she joined the Rural Foundation and was nominated as the ÒDeveloper of the YearÓ in the Eastern Cape Region. She was responsible for various Community Programs including; Lay- Health Care Training, Soccer, Preschool and other Training Programs for farm-workers in the Sundays River Valley.
Natalie initiated the Aids Project and has been managing the fieldwork, fundraising and administration of the Trust Projects in Nomathamsanqa for the last 4 years. Natalie lives on a citrus farm with her husband and two daughters.

Sindile Lovemore Mofu - Trustee; 2004 and Coordinator of Home-based Care Project (2008)

Lovemore matriculated in Kirkwood, Sundays River Valley and completed several short courses at the University in Port Elizabeth including Conflict Resolution and Accounting Principles. He joined the Local Municipality as Cashier at the Office in Nomathamsanqa, where he worked for 14 years. Lovemore obtained a certificate in Theology as well as The ChurchÕs Response to Aids. In 2005 he attended a Pastoral Care program in Birmingham (England) for 5 weeks. He has been Assistant Rector at the Anglican Church of St LukeÕs in Addo and St. Barnabas in Nomathamsanqa for the past 4 years. Lovemore has lived in Addo his whole life. He is married and has 4 children.

Simphiwe Justice Mente - Trustee (2005 - 2008)

Justice has lived in the Addo area all his life. He completed his schooling at the Samkelwe Senior Secondary School at grade 11 level. Justice worked as a Police Officer in the Dog Handler Unit for 6 years. He is a Steward of the Methodist Church of South Africa at the Sundays River Mission. He served as Chairperson of the Health and Welfare Forum, which is the umbrella body of the Lukhanyiso Clinic Committee, from 2001 until the disbanding of the Committee in 2004. He is employed by the Local Municipality as a Water Meter Reader for Nomathamsanqa.
Justice was nominated as Trustee on the Thembalethu Trust, as the Community Representative from Nomathamsanqa. Justice is married with 4 children.
